As talent booker of South Tyneside International Magic Festival I am proud to say I was the first to discover the outstanding talents of Brad Manuel. I knew that he would be a great success but to have Walt Lees (Editor of Abra magazine) call him 'the undiscovered hit of the convention' confirmed this. The buzz created by his performances - whether compering, lecturing, close-up or stage - made him one of the stand-out acts in our 7-year history.
Even many weeks after the convention he remains one of the most talked about of all the performers.
On a personal note, Brad was a joy to deal with from my initial enquiry and throughout the event. Martin Duffy, South Tyneside International Magic Convention. UK.
One of the best lectures we have had... EVER! Bepe Bonnomessi - ITALY
Brad Manuel's reputation had preceded him, and a large group of Auckland magicians turned up to see his highly entertaining and practical lecture. Brad, from Queensland, Australia, easily lived up to everyone's expectations. He started by producing two shooter glasses of Schnapps from his shoe, which he and Alan Watson drank. He followed this with a series of his own hilarious original effects.
My favourite was his coin in bottle routine in which the coin became temporarily stuck halfway into the bottle. I also enjoyed his comedy dice stacking routine. Earlier in the evening, he'd borrowed $50, which promptly disappeared. He gave the person who had "given" him the note an opportunity to win it back. Needless to say, he failed at this. Brad then helped a ten-year-old to successfully stack the dice, proving how easy the feat was.
It was a treat to see a magician who not only invents and manufactures all his own effects, but also knows how to get the maximum impact from them. A good example of this was "Buckethead," a routine in which a child has his head "pumped up" until it expands to twice its normal size. Brad Manuel included stage, close-up and children's magic in his lecture. I'd recommend his lecture to all magic clubs. He'd also be a great addition to any convention. Richard Webster. New Zealand.
